We all need stories to help us to survive.  We read them, we write them, we watch them, we tell them, in an effort to decode the world, to make it make sense--if such a thing is possible.  My role in the vast tale-o-sphere is simple: I channel the stories of humanity, summoning all that I am--body, mind, heart and spirit-- to make them sing.

VOICEOVER

I fell into voiceover work quite by accident, when my then-husband recorded my voice for use in a Grammy Awards spot for CBS.  Eventually I became the female voice of a brand-new network called FXM: Movies From Fox, and enjoyed a five-year run announcing all manner of movies, specials and interstitials on the network.  I was signed by the legendary Steve Tisherman, and the incredbile Vanessa Gilbert has been my agent for 23 years . The business has changed enormously since I began, but my love for it hasn't.  It's a kick to be a Mystical Statue in a video game one day and a dry-as-dust biologist lecturing about Naked Mole Rats for Disney on the next.  I love the purity of acting solely with my voice, and the subtlety, nuance and range that is required of me.

One memory of many:  In 1999 I was hired by Jane Campion to record the voice-over for the movie trailer of her film "Holy Smoke," starring Kate Winslett and Harvey Keitel.  This was a huge deal because up until then, the movie-trailer world was inhabited strictly by men.  Ms. Campion was pleased with my read, and submitted the trailer to the studio for their approval--which they did not grant.  They were skittish about bucking the trend and ultimately re-voiced the trailer using a deep, booming man's voice.  When my agents attempted to get a copy of the rejected trailer for my reel, they were told that it had already been degaussed.  I came that close to breaking the movie-trailer sound barrier!  I coulda been a contender!  Ah well, easy come easy go.  On to the next big thing!  What shall it be?
